Before BYU

Lettered four years in baseball and football at Woodrow Wilson High ... was football and baseball captain for three years and all-district first-team for two years ... was team MVP in 1998 and 1999 ... named Dale Hansen's Scholar Athlete of the Week in Texas ... hosts the school record for fewest walks per innings and strikeouts in a season ... three no-hiters in high school ... one of his teams posted a 14-0 record in district competition ... was all-district in football as a quarterback ... was a member of the National Honor Society and National Journalism Society.
