Before BYU

Prepped at Chamberlain High ... second-team all-conference and a member of the Spanish National Honor Society ... was the state of Florida Home Run Derby winner in the Saladino Baseball Tournament ... batted .400 with four homers, had 13 starts for a 3-2 record and a 2.1 ERA ... coached by Dick Rohrberg ... played for the state champion Tampa Tarpons AAU team which finished third in the nation.

Named Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-MWC ... walked on to the team again after being cut three previous times ... earned Cougar Scholar Athlete Honors ... recorded his victory in a 12-inning, 3-2, victory, pitching the final three innings against New Mexico ... retired the Lobos in order in the 11th, then struck out a batter before and after giving up a game-tying solo homer in the 12th ... recorded saves against Utah Valley State and against Air Force in the Mountain West Conference Tournament ... had an ERA of 2.35 in his five MWC games.
