Born in San Diego ... parents are Michael and Diane ... cousins Mike and Marlin McKeever played football for USC and cousin Randy Sobek played baseball for Whittier College ... played summer baseball for the San Diego Stars where he batted .370 ... played in the Best of the West Tournament, the Horizen Summer Sieries, the National Baseball Congress tournament, the Grand Forks International tournament, and the Kamloops BC International tournament ... recruited by UCLA, Riverside, Cal Poly SLO and Loyola Marymount.

Before BYU

Prepped at University San Diego High ... played in the Area Code Games with the Milwaukee Brewers and for the Seattle Mariners Scout Team ... played in the CIF Championship game and was named MVP for hitting a home run, triple, a sac fly, a walk, four RBI and scored two runs ... also named to the All-CIF team, All-Western League, and selected All-North San Diego County ... selected as a player of the week by the San Diego Union-Tribune ... played with the South Coast Connie Mack team, the Orange County Shockers and the San Diego Gamers ... was a three-year varsity player and made the Union Tribune All-Academic Team ... coached by Gary Remiker ... also played for the University of San Diego High School where he batted .412.
