Before BYU

Prepped at La Cueva High which finished No. 1 in the nation according to Baseball America in 2004, No. 23 in 2005 by USA today and No. 7 by Easton Baseball in 2003 ... coached by Stanley McKeever and the team was state champions all three years, including a 6-5 victory in the eighth inning as a senior ... was first-team all-state as a senior and junior and second-team all-state as a sophomore ... two-time first-team all-district and was second-team all-district as a sophomore ... set a season record scoring 64 runs ... batted .475, had 13 stolen bases, four homers, three triples and eight doubles as a senior ... batted .458 in his prep career with 37 stolen bases, 11 homers, eight triples, 22 doubles ... ran a 6.8 60-yard dash ... lettered three years in baseball and football .. was first-team all-state as a linebacker and third-team all-state as a wide receiver as a senior ... third-team all-state receiver as a junior ... third-team all-district as a sophomore linebacker ... played summer ball for the Albuquerque Shockers.
