Charles “Charlie” Roberts was an outstanding athlete in three different sports at BYU from 1935 to 1939. A football star, he lettered all four years in the sport and received an All-American rating in 1936 as a sophomore.

In basketball, Charlie played guard all four years and was team captain for the 1938-39 season. He also lettered in track two years and participated in intramural tennis. In 1939, at the conclusion of his senior year, Charlie received the Most Valuable Athlete Award at BYU.

After graduation he went to coach successful football, basketball, and golf teams at high schools and junior highs in Wyoming. He continued playing basketball on AAU teams and was voted most valuable player at two AAU tournaments in 1941 and 1943.

Charlie taught and coached for 39 years until retiring in 1978. During that time he served in many athletic and academic organizations, including service as President of the Big Horn Basin Coaches Association.
