Coached by Allen Layne at Downey High School...all-league, All-CIF first team and Co-MVP in league.

1978 | Sophomore Year

Walked on and earned a scholarship...played behind pro-draft Larry Miller and on special teams...was specialty teams player of the game against Oregon...against SDSU he caused one fumble and had a fumble recovery.

1979 | Junior Year

Against Weber State, Utah State and New Mexico he was selected as linebacker of the week...started after Danny Frazier suffered a broken neck against Texas A&M...made eight tackles against Colorado State, 12 tackles against Long Beach State and nine tackles against Indiana in the Holiday Bowl.
