Parents are David and Lynn...recruited by Utah, Utah State, Stanford and Washington...has a 3.83 GPA...Eagle Scout..an excellent piano player...served a mission to Salta, Argentina from 1988-1990...married Jennifer Anderson in July, 1992, and they have a daughter, Hannah...majoring in math education.

Before BYU

Lettered in wrestling, football, baseball and track and field at Springville High...team won 1985 state football championship...won state championship is the shot put and discus...finished second at the state wrestling championships (heavyweight division)...coached by Ray Newbury (SUSC).

1987 | Freshman Year

Traveled with the varsity.

1991 | Sophomore Year

Participated in spring drills...had a perfect 4.0 GPA for the winter semester...was Academic All-WAC...started eight of the last nine games of the season.

1992 | Medical Redshirt Year

Placed third in the shot put at the WAC Indoor Track Championships at 53-6 3/4...outdoors threw the shot put and placed fifth and threw the discus 156-4 at the WAC Championships...injured knee vs. UCLA...granted a medical hardship.

1993 | Junior Year

Participated in spring drills...in track threw the shot put and placed fifth at 53-1 3/4...started all 12 games...suffered a shoulder separation at New Mexico, but played through it the rest of the season...selected by the coaching staff as offensive lineman of the game against Hawai'i, UCLA, Notre Dame and San Diego State...selected as GTE/CoSida Academic All-District 8, Academic All-WAC and honorable mention All-WAC.
