Before BYU

Coached by John Velasco (BYU) at Radford High School in Hawai'i where he was all-state, all-league and All-American and played on a state championship team.

Other College

At Santa Rose JC in California he was named Camino Conference Player of the Year and was all-conference...was fourth in the nation for '78 juco all-purpose running.



1979 | Junior Year

Injuries during spring limited his playing time...All-WAC...three times selected as coaches' player of the week in his position...was fourth in kickoff returns nationally (26.3 YPC) and seventh nationally in all-purpose rushing (147.6 YPG)...he was the only BYU player to return kickoffs and BYU was ranked first nationally at 26.3 yards per game...AP honorable mention All-America...against Texas A&M, fans were tipped off by this new athlete with his 53 yards rushing and returning three kickoffs for 87 yards...had a 51-yard run against Weber State...81 yards rushing against SDSU was his season high...caught 10 passes for 102 yards and scored three TDs against Wyoming...scored a TD against Hawai'i and caught seven passes for 52 yards...caught seven passes for 27 yards against Colorado State along with rushing for 64 yards...caught six passes for 55 yards and returned four kickoffs for 146 yards against Long Beach State...season totals: 546 yards rushing (second to Lane's 595), 404 yards receiving (leading the team with a 4.2 average)...returned 22 kickoffs for 579 yards...scored 11 TDs for third place on the team...led the WAC in receiving.
