Born 10/16/75 in Aurora, Colo.,...parents are Kaleo and an Eagle scout...older brother is BYU player Shane...younger brother Zach signed a letter of intent with the Cougars in February, 1997...married Mandy Coy in February, 1994 and they have sons, Ishaad and Samuel, and a daughter, Maleya...recruited by Miami, Colorado, Nebraska, Hawai`i, Stanford, Washington, and Arizona St.,...majoring in management.

Before BYU

Prepped at Wheat Ridge High...lettered three times in football and basketball and twice in track and volleyball...all-state selection as a senior...two-time all-conference in football and basketball...Jefferson County Player of the Year and All-American in football...MVP in basketball...helped team to four state championships...coached by Ed Stevens (CSU).

1997 | Junior Year

Selected second team All-Western Athletic Conference...had a six-yard sack vs. Washington...had six tackles, three tackles for losses, and a hurry at SMU...recovered a fumble at Rice...had four tackles including three tackles for losses, caused and recovered a fumble, chosen coaches' defensive lineman vs. Hawai`i...five tackles, a deflection, a hurry, a sack, and caused a goal line fumble vs. TCU, good for WAC Mountain Division Defensive Player of the Week and coaches' defensive lineman of the tackles and a tackle for loss at UTEP...Cougar Club Scholar-Athlete.

1998 | Senior Year

Had three tackles against Fresno State, including a tackle for a loss of 11 yards...had a solo tackle and a pass deflection vs. San Jose State...racked up three tackles and a QB hurry vs. the Aztecs...blocked a 30-yard field goal attempt by UTEP in the second quarter of that game to keep the Miners from claiming the lead heading into halftime.
