Born 8/24/72 in Billings...parents are Robert and DeLaine...signed in 1991 as a recruit prior to coming to BYU, but served an LDS Church mission to Tallahassee, Fla.,...brother, Jim, was a heavyweight wrestler for BYU, 1992-94...is an Eagle Scout...married Renae Nixon in August, 1995...they have a daughter, Lisa...recruited by Wyoming, Oregon, Oregon St., Washington, Montana St., and Montana...majoring in electrical engineering.
Before BYU
Prepped at Skyview High...three-year starter as a fullback, tight end and linebacker...all-state and MVP in the state...had 83 unassisted tackles and recovered a fumble for a TD...all-state wrestler, going undefeated at 190 pounds...two-time state champion wrestler...lettered three times in football, four times in wrestling, twice in baseball and once in track...state javelin champion...coached by Ron Lebsock (Montana).
1994 | Redshirt Year
Limited participation in spring drills due to injury...redshirted in football...wrestled some with BYU's varsity.
1995 | Freshman Year
Saw playing time against Hawai`i and New Mexico.
1996 | Sophomore Year
Saw action as a backup linebacker and on special teams...had a pair of kickoff returns, one against Hawai`i and one against Wyoming...helped cause a fumble against UNLV.
1997 | Junior Year
Wrestled for BYU, posting a 6-7 record and finishing fourth in the WAC...Cougar Club Scholar-Athlete...hurt his knee in practice just prior to the Arizona St. game and missed the next three games...the injury limited his playing time on the second-unit...named coaches' special teams player of the game vs. UTEP.
