Mother is Jessie...brother, Bennie, played defensive back for BYU in 1972, and another brother, Paul, played baseball for the Cougars...recruited by Utah, Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, and USC...married Jennifer Pettibone in the fall of 1989...majoring in recreation management.
Before BYU
Lettered four years in both football and wrestling, and three years in baseball...played his senior year at Cyprus High in Magna, Utah...All-America and all-state in football.
1986 | Freshman Year
Walked on...played junior varsity football and suited up for some varsity games...redshirted with the wrestling team.
1987 | Redshirt Year
Redshirted and wrestled heavyweight.
1988 | Sophomore Year
Started at nose guard against Hawai'i and Miami due to injury to Tim Knight...played a lot the second half of the season...had 21 tackles and a pass deflection.
1989 | Junior Year
Second unit on the varsity...had two tackles at Navy.
