Before BYU

High School - Ran sprints and was valley sprint champion for three seasons ... also won football all-city and all-state honors ... was scholar-athlete for three years ... coached by Jim Fazio.

1973 | Freshman Year

As a tailback he led the team in rushing with 414 yards (4.3 average), caught seven passes and scored two TDs ... started year as defensive back, but switched to tailback ... also returned kicks (24.6 average).

1974 | Redshirt Year

Sidelined by a knee injury.

1975 | Sophomore Year

Returned as defensive back where his speed was needed. 

1976 | Junior Year

Played backup on varsity right corner slot ... recovered a fumble in a Utah State game ... had kick-off returns of 17 and 33 yards in the Tangerine Bowl ... can help account for two bowl records ... most yards kickoff returns, 204 ... best kickoff return average 25.5.
