Parents are Leroy and Barbara...was a BMX bike racer...BMX world European champion in 1982 and 1983...recruited by Oregon, Washington State, Boston College and Hawai'i...majoring in social work with a minor in physical education.

Lettered in football and track at Moreau High...ran 100 and 200-meter races and 4x100 relay...team MVP in football two years...All-Catholic League twice and player of the year twice...All-East Bay twice and All-Bay Area twice...All-Northern California as a senior...South County leading rusher two years in a row...coached by Tim Waish (UC Riverside).

1985- Injured a knee in a high school all-star game and sat out of school.
1986 | Freshman Year
Played on the junior varsity.
1987 | Sophomore Year
Played behind Fred Whittingham...scored twice against Utah State and had 67 yards rushing...finished with 48 carries and 239 yards...also caught 12 passes for 49 yards.
1988 | Junior Year
Third-leading rusher with 61 carries and 336 yards (two TDs)...caught 14 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown...alternated a lot with starting fullback Fred Whittingham.
1989 | Redshirt Year
Suffered a broken leg in spring game...redshirted.
