Before BYU

High School - Played football, track and basketball at Clayton Valley High ... named to Northern Cal football as tight end ... coach was Peter Carpino.

1976 | Sophomore Year

Split game duties with Brian Bilick ... his 17-yard catch set up a field goal at Kansas State ... scored TD's against Wyoming and Southern Mississippi  ... had two long receptions of 24 and 27 yards in the Tangerine Bowl ... scored a TD at the Tangerine Bowl ... had a TD in a Spring game ... stats for '76 were 13-227 yards. 

1977 | Junior Year

Had several class performances ... was a 4-89 against New Mexico in pass receptions ... scored on a 38-yard TD and had a TD from the 450-yard kickoff return against the Lobos on an on-side kick ... was 3-78 at Oregon State, all in the first half ... his 13-yard TD was BYU's only TD at Wyoming ... was 6-132 with a 26-yard TD against Utah ... was 7-79 and two TDs against Long Beach State ... was third in scoring for BYU with 54 points ... 37-602 yards in a pass receptions overall ... honorable mention all-WAC ... has great range and sure hands to make the big catch ... one of the best tight ends in the Rocky Mountain era.
