Parents are Robert and Mary...wife is Kelli Gardner...recruited by Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA...majoring in medical technology.

Before BYU

High-jumped 7-0 at Mountain View football he was all-state and a member of the Arizona Republic Super 24 and the Arizona Star Super Adidas All-American...coached by Jesse Parker (Kansas State)...the team had a 23-game winning streak.

1980 | Freshman Year

Named outstanding defensive freshman...scored a TD against Hawai'i on a six-yard run following a blocked punt by a teammate...recovered an onside kick against SMU in the fourth quarter of the Holiday Bowl.

1981 | Sophomore Year

Scored two touchdowns...lots of starting time...had a 12-yard interception vs. Utah State for the winning TD...had a 12-yard interception return for a TD vs. Long Beach State...selected as coaches' player of the game and WAC player of the week vs. Utah State.

1982 | Junior Year

Led the team in defensive scoring...was the team leader with 14 tackles at Utah...led the team with eight tackles at UNLV...was coaches' linebacker of the game against UNLV, Colorado State and Wyoming...against Hawai'i he had 27 defensive points, including a blocked field goal...was WAC player of the week vs. New Mexico...selected as BYU coaches' outstanding linebacker for '82...was first team All-WAC and honorable mention All-America by Associated Press.
