Before BYU

  • At Hoover High he was the No. 1 singles player for three years
  • 1971 California state doubles champion
  • Ranked 5th in the U.S. doubles in 1971


  • An Honorable Mention All-American in 1976 due to his doubles play with Steve Whitehead
  • The pair lost in the third set of the semifinal round at the NCAA championships
  • Played at the No.1 spot for the Cougars before going on a mission
  • Won the San Diego Evening Tribune's singles title in the summer of 1972
  • Notched a 9-4 record in 1972
  • Runner-up in WAC #5 singles in 1972
