• Played four years of tennis at Dos Pueblos High
• Was a prep team captain
• MVP three years
• Won CIF doubles
• Junior college transfer from Santa Barbara City College, where he went undefeated in doubles for one year
• Compiled a a 25-3 record in singles and a 30-0 doubles competition as a JC player
• Named MVP both years as JC player
• His team was No. 2 in Southern Cal his sophomore year
• While a JC player he also won the Ojai Calley Junior College Tennis tourney
