Top Performers of the Week: Aug. 31-Sept. 6

Sophomore Miles Batty came in first place overall in the men's 4-mile race with an impressive time of 19:38.3 to beat the rest of his teammates and several prolific UCLA steeplechase runners at the BYU Autumn Classic.

Max Hall - Football (Offense) - Senior - Mesa, Ariz.

Quarterback Max Hall completed 26-of-38 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 20 BYU to a 14-13 upset of No. 3 Oklahoma. Down 13-7 with 11:41 left to play, Hall led the Cougars on a 16-play, 78-yard drive that resulted in a 7-yard touchdown pass to McKay Jacobson to tie the game with just 3:03 remaining. Mitch Payne’s extra point put BYU on top, 14-13. During the game-winning drive, Hall completed 9-of-11 passes for 74 yards, including a 23-yard strike to tight end Dennis Pitta on 4th-and-4 from the Oklahoma 29-yard line.

Andrew Rich - Football (Defense) - Junior - Ogden, Utah

Free safety Andrew Rich recorded five tackles, including four solo stops, one tackle for loss and two forced fumbles to aid the BYU upset victory. With Oklahoma holding a 7-0 lead at the 2:15 mark of the first quarter and a 1st-and-10 on the BYU 16-yardline, Rich caused a Sooner fumble that was recovered by Cougar linebacker Shawn Doman on the BYU 5-yard line. The Odgen, Utah, native forced his second fumble of the game with 4:12 left to play in the second quarter and Oklahoma driving. Cougar defensive lineman Brett Denney recovered the ball on the BYU 37. Five plays later, Max Hall connected with Andrew George on a 5-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7-7.

Kayla Walker - Women's Volleyball - Senior - Kaysville, Utah

Rightside hitter Kayla Walker posted her first double-double of the season with 14 kills and 17 digs against the No. 23-ranked Kansas State Wildcats at the Nike Classic. The Cougars went 2-1 in the tournament, placing second as a result of Walker’s solid play each game as she was named to the All-Tournament team. Against Weber State, she led the offense with nine kills, downing the Wildcats in three. Against Cal Poly Walker had 22 kills and hit at .314. Earlier in the week against instate rival Utah State, Walker posted a career-high 25 kills, hitting at .288 and also tallying nine digs and two blocks.

Miles Batty - Men's Cross Country - Sophomore - Sandy, Utah

Miles Batty came in first place overall in the men's 4-mile race with an impressive time of 19:38.3 to beat the rest of his teammates and several prolific UCLA steeplechase runners at the BYU Autumn Classic. His time beat three other BYU runners who finished within 20 seconds of him. Recently returned from a two-year LDS mission, Miles earned his first career first-place finish at BYU. He was able to lead the pack for BYU as the Cougars represented four of the top five spots and seven of the top 10, finishing with a nearly perfect score of 16 points.

Katy Andrews - Women's Cross Country - Sophomore - Encinitas, Calif.

Katy Andrews came in second place overall at the BYU Autumn Classic with a time of 18:25.6 to lead the Cougars to a first-place finish ahead of UCLA and Idaho State in a 5K race. Her time is the best of her young BYU career and matches a second-place finish she had in a 2008 competition. With the team's top finish, the 2008 All-MWC Andrews helped the Cougars to a 34-point finish as four of her teammates finished in the top 10.
