McCall Jones - Women's Tennis - Sophomore - Orange County, Calif.
McCall Jones combined for a 3-1 weekend against two top-50 opponents. The sophomore and classmate Megan Price defeated the No. 42 doubles team in the country Friday to clinch the doubles point. Jones then earned the first singles victory of the day with a straight-set win over No. 88 Natasha Marks. Saturday, Jones and Price fell to No. 9 Anna Redecsi and Selma Salkovic in doubles, but the California native rebounded in singles with a decisive victory over Redecsi to finish the weekend.
Evan Urbina - Men's Tennis - Junior - Huntington Beach, Calif.
Evan Urbina went 4-0 in an incredible weekend for the No. 45 BYU men's tennis team. Urbina and partner Spencer Smith completed the doubles sweep against the University of San Francisco by winning the match 8-6. Urbina was then the first player off the court in singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Rainer Nachbauer. The Cougars went on to win the contest 6-1. Saturday, Urbina and Smith paired up to secure the first doubles win against a tough Boise State team. In singles, the junior won the first set 6-4 before battling in a second-set tiebreak. Urbina eventually clinched the upset over the No. 29 Boise State team at 14-12. This marks the first time BYU defeated Boise State since 2002.
Mindy Bonham - Women's Basketball - Junior - Centennial, Colo.
Mindy Bonham tallied a total of 26 points and nine rebounds in two league games played at San Diego State and New Mexico. In both games, her points were team highs. In the game at SDSU, she recorded her best field goal percentage of the season (.727, 8-11) and dished out a team-high five assists.
Jackson Emery - Men's Basketball - Junior - Alpine, Utah
Jackson Emery averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 2.0 assists as BYU defeated San Diego State (82-68) and lost to New Mexico (83-81) at home. Against San Diego State Emery poisted 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 shooting from the free throw line while adding seven rebounds, three assists and five steals. He helped the Cougars to a 36-28 halftime lead with nine points and two steals in the first half. Emery followed with eight points, five boards and three steals in the second half to help put the Aztecs away. Emery Had 11 points, seven rebonds and five steals against New Mexico. He hit 2-of-5 from three and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Emery hit a three with 3:52 remaining to give the Cougars a two-point lead at 76-74 and had a steal and an assist with 52 seconds remaining that led to a basket to tie the score at 80-all.
