The Top Performers of the Week feature highlights the top athletes of each sport currently in play. Check back each week to see which athletes are standing out in Cougar sports.
Rachel Dyer -- Volleyball -- Junior -- Encinitas, Calif.
BYU middle blocker Rachel Dyer was instrumental in BYU's two weekend victories, posting 3.86 kills and 1.86 blocks per game in seven total games. Against Air Force on Friday night, Dyer tied her career high with three aces while coming in second for the Cougars with nine kills on .471 hitting. The junior followed up that performance with an impressive outing against Wyoming on Saturday, pacing BYU with 18 kills on .571 hitting, the eighth time this year she has hit above .500 in a match. She also added 10 blocks on the night for her third double-double of the season, helping BYU outblock the Cowgirls, 17-7. On the year, Dyer leads the MWC and ranks among the top 10 in the nation in hitting percentage at .423 while ranking sixth in the league in blocks with 1.23.
Kassidy Christensen -- Soccer -- Freshman -- Bountiful, Utah
BYU freshman Kassidy Christensen was named Mountain West Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week Monday. Christensen earned the honors by scoring game-winning goals in her first two starts of her career at Wyoming and at home against New Mexico in 1-0 wins last week. She has recorded three game-winners and four total goals in the last three games. The Cougars will go on the road this week to play at UNLV in the final match of the season. A win over the Rebels would spell a regular season MWC Championship for BYU. The Cougars will also be vying for a MWC Tournament Championship at home Nov. 7-10.
Rachel Grant -- Swimming -- Freshman -- Walnut, Calif.
Rachel Grant won four individual events in this past weekend's Phill Hansel Duals-- 200 IM, 400 IM, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly. In the 100 fly she finished in a time of 57.05 and in the 200 fly she recorded a time of 2:03.24. Then in the 400 IM she won by more than six seconds with a time of 4:23.20 and Grant narrowly won in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.97. She helped BYU improve their dual-meet record to 5-0.
Dustin Bybee -- Cross Country -- Senior -- Orem, Utah
Dustin Bybee, a senior from Orem, Utah, placed third at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., on Saturday. Bybee led all Cougar runners and earned first-team All-MWC for his 8K time of 24:55. His performance propelled the Cougars to a MWC championship, defeating New Mexico by five points.
Katie Bowen -- Cross Country -- Sophomore -- Alpine, Utah
Katie Bowen, a sophomore transfer from Weber State, paced all Cougar runners with a first-team All-MWC performance at the MWC Championships. Bowen ran the 6K course in a time of 21:28, good for third place in the race.
