The Top Performers of the Week feature highlights the top athletes of each sport currently in play. Check back each week to see which athletes are standing out in Cougar sports.
Kassi Andersen, Women's Cross Country - Junior; Provo, Utah
Kassi Andersen led the women's team and won her third race of the season with a time of 20:52.7. Andersen started the race by running along with several of the other girls, before making a move in the second half of the race. She received First Team All-Conference honors and was named the Female Runner of the Year.
"I really like running with all the girls at the beginning," said Andersen. "During the last mile I tried to pick it up. I knew there were girls trying to catch me so I tried to push it. I had a great time."
Josh Rohatinsky, Men's Cross Country - Senior; Provo, Utah
With top runner Josh Rohatinsky back from injury the men's team brought home it's seventh conference title in eight years. Rohatinsky finished with a time of 23:56.8, beating Wyoming's Mark Korir by nine seconds. He received First Team All-Conference honors and was named Male Runner of the Year.
"Josh ran extremely well," said Eyestone. "He expanded on the lead about halfway through the race. It was a hard effort."
Andrea Willis, Women's Soccer - Freshman; Riverside, Calif.
BYU Freshman defender Andrea Willis has been named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
Willis, a Riverside, Calif., native, scored her first career goal to give BYU a 2-0 lead over UNLV. Her goal secured BYU of the No. 2 seed in the MWC Tournament. Willis has been a key contributor on the BYU defense that has only allowed 10 goals on the season and has earned 11 shutouts.
