PROVO -- Fans attending the BYU vs. Utah State game on October 5, will have the opportunity to contribute to the relief efforts of the recent tragedies in New York City, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania.
Volunteers from the Brigham Young University Student Association, the American Red Cross, the United Way and the Provo Firefighters Association will join forces at LaVell Edwards Stadium this Friday evening with all proceeds going directly to the Disaster Relief Fund.
Those wishing to donate are encouraged to contribute only to those with proper collection boxes and approved credentials.
"This is a great opportunity for BYU and Utah State fans to join together and assist the victims of the recent tragedies on the east coast," said BYU Advancement Vice President Fred Skousen. "We appreciate the cooperation of the United Way, the American Red Cross and other organizations involved in this effort."
Richard Heaps, a BYU employee in the Counseling and Career Center who has been at ground zero in New York City as a Red Cross volunteer, and Bill Hulterstrom, President of the United Way of Utah County, will be on hand at BYU's media luncheon on Wednesday.
"We are pleased to work with BYU and the other organizations to provide an opportunity for the citizens of Utah to respond to this great tragedy," said Hulterstrom.
