Coach Dave Rose announced the nonconference schedule today. Here are a few more tidbits that were not included in the release:
-BYU will face eight teams that won 20-or-more games in 2008-09 including Bradley (21-15), Weber State (21-10), Utah State (30-5), Arizona State (25-10), Arizona (21-14), UTEP (23-14), Nevada (21-13) and Tulsa (25-11).
-In addition to the three NCAA Tournament teams (Utah State, Arizona and Arizona State), the Cougars face three teams that went to the NIT (Tulsa, Nebraska and Weber State), the runnerup from the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (Bradley) and two CBI participants (UTEP-runnerup and Nevada).
-The Cougars will potentially face five teams in the nonconference season that they faced a year ago. BYU has set games against Idaho State, Weber State, Utah State and Arizona State—the Cougars were 3-1 against those teams last season with the lone loss against Arizona State. The Cougars will potentially face Tulsa in the Las Vegas Classic, a team BYU defeated a year ago.
-BYU will renew some old WAC rivalries when it plays at Hawaii, at UTEP and vs. Fresno State in the Galen Center.
-The Cougars are 30-13 all-time against Hawaii, 39-25 against UTEP and 11-5 vs. Fresno. BYU has not played any of the three teams since leaving the WAC for the MWC beginning in the 1999-2000 season.
-It's been a while... BYU will play Nebraska for the first time since 1935. The Cougars are 3-1 against the Huskers, winning twice in 1931 and splitting two meetings in 1935.
