Why/when did you begin running
I started running as a sophomore. I didn’t even know what cross country was as a freshman. My first experience with running was in track in ninth grade. I ran in the spring and I really liked it. Then, someone told me at the end of the year about cross country and a lot of my friends had done it as freshmen. I wish now I would have done it too but I didn’t know about it. I started training with Davis (High School) in the summer before my sophomore year and I just really liked it.
Favorite part of running cross country
I love running and competing. I love getting better and the self-improvement part of it. I love the team aspect of it too.
Favorite sport besides running
I like watching football.
If you could be good at another sport, what would it be?
Soccer. I used to play soccer and really liked it.
I have a set routine. I say a silent prayer, I listen to certain music, there are certain songs I have to listen to before I run. I am a mellow music listener before I run. I don’t really like pump up music because I’m already pumped up enough. I have to listen to John Mayer, some country, sometimes even church music.

Favorite part about BYU
I love the campus, I like the integration of the gospel with learning and how it all ties together.
Most rewarding moment in running career
Going to high school nationals last year. It was one of those things where it was like a dream. It’s in Portland, Oregon and they treat you like you are famous. Everything is paid for and you go for like three or four days and then you get to race. The race, and being able to go with all my friends whom I was really close with was amazing.
I love being around people. I love making people laugh.
I love being outdoors. I love hiking, kayaking, four-wheeling.
If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
I would go to the Tetons. It’s one of my favorite places. It’s so beautiful and I feel at peace there. You can do so much. I went last summer with my family and we went kayaking, hiking, biking and camping.
“Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.” Doctrine and Covenants 6:36
Who do you look up to?
I really look up to my brother. We are really close. He is good at making people laugh. He has a great sense of humor. He is just a really good person.
My world religions class
Today I fell down the stairs at the JFSB. I was reading my book walking down the stairs and thought there was one stair but there were two stairs left so I totally collapsed.
Someone I’d like to meet
Frank Sinatra. I love old movies and music like big band music. I love Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.
Something few people know about me
One of my favorite songs is by Louis Armstrong, “A kiss to build a dream on.” A lot of people don’t know I like older music like that.
Run to run. Don’t get caught up in things like the pressure or the competition because you stop having fun and stop enjoying it. Focus on the team and running and why you love it.
