Perfect Record for Brazil

Jonathan Tavernari and the Brazilian national team finished 3-0 at the International Tournament of Almada. The Brazilian squad won three close games and closed things out with a 77-73 victory over Portugal. Tavernari finished the tournament with a scoring average of 15.0 while shooting 62.5 percent from the field and from downtown.

Here is a link to view the box scores form the tournament. To view a game click on the graphic that looks like an eye on the left side of the chart.

On another note...

Here is a link listing the career scoring in New York high school basketball history. You might recognize No. 14 on the list.

Looking Through the Vault

SI.com has a great feature called the Vault. It allows you to search for past articles back to the 1950s. There is a great article from 1984 about Devin Durrant, BYU's third al-time leading scorer. The article is titled "A Young Man with a Mission" and was penned by Jack McCallum.

Here is a link to Durrant's bio on his website, www.raisinganallamerican.com.

International Rankings, Watch Cummard and Plaisted

With senior Jonathan Tavernari (Brazil) and sophomore Charles Abouo (Cote d'Ivoire) competing with their respective national teams, I thought it would be interesting to see where those teams ranked amongst the rest of the world's national teams. All the national teams are ranked by FIBA using a point system.

Brazil is currently 16th in world and fourth out of 11 teams in FIBA Americas (the world is divided into five zones, including Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania). Cote d'Ivoire is 51st in the world and 11th out of 19 teams in FIBA Africa.

Speaking of Jonathan, check out the Q&A recently posted on BYUCougars.com.

The NBA Summer League is set to tipoff on July 10 in Las Vegas. For those not able to make the trip to see former Cougars Lee Cummard (Phoenix Suns) and Trent Plaisted (Detroit Pistons) in action, the NBA is making every game available on demand for a slight cost.

Plaisted and the Pistons will debut vs. the Sacramento Kings. on July 10 at 3 p.m. PT and Cummard and the Suns will debut on July 13 at 3 p.m. PT vs. the Dallas Mavericks. Here is the complete schedule.
