Terrell Lyday Update

After earned first-team All-MWC honors at BYU and leading the Cougars to an MWC title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2001, Terrell Lyday took has game overseas and is enjoying a nice career.

Rose Plays in Chairman's Tournament for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation

BYU head coach Dave Rose recently played in the eighth annual Chairman's Tournament for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation. Read about it in the Salt Lake Tribune.

Trent Whiting in Italy

Former Cougar Trent Whiting has enjoyed a successful career in Italy since playing his senior season at BYU. He averaged 14.2 points and 2.3 assists while shooting .390 from three and .819 from the free throw line for the Cougars.

Since 2005 Whiting has played in the Legadue, the second-highest league in Italy. In four seasons he has averaged 19.8 points and owns a shooting percentage of .472. In 128 games in the last five seasons he has scored 2,535 points.

Marchand Continental Championship Cup

Jonathan Tavernari and the Brazilian Senior National Team will open play at the Marchand Continental Championship Cup today against Argentina at 4 p.m. MT. Visit tournament page for updated information including the schedule for the week and results.

Congrats to Tavernari for making the team for the second-straight summer—as the only non-professional. This summer's accomplishment may be more impressive considering the 2009 roster includes two NBA players—Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns and Anderson Varejao of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cougars in Europe Update

This is old news but it highlights a BYU great. At the 2008 Euroleague Basketball Final Four 50 legends of the previous 50 years of European club basketball were honored on center court. BYU's own Kresimir Cosic (1948-1995) was one of the players honors for his contributions as a player and coach. Check out a video of his daughter talking about Cosic.

Lee Cummard's signing with Alba Berlin was also announced on the Euroleague website.

In other European news, former Cougar Trent Plaisted has signed to play with BC Zadar. Plaisted played part of last season in Italy but returned to the states due to an injury. He played this past summer with the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

Zadar is the same team Cosic played for and the team's arena is named after Cosic.

Cummard in Germany

Lee Cummard has reported to camp for Alba Berlin. He was featured by the Berliner Morgenpost (in German of course) so take a look. Anyone else out there think we should put chain nets up in the Marriott Center?

Ainge Takes Trip to Mexico City for Basketball Without Borders

Former BYU Cougar Austin Ainge and head coach of the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League spent four days in Mexico City as part of the NBA's Basketball Without Borders program. Read about it here.

Fredette's Summer Season Ends

Jimmer Fredette scored 23 points and had three assists and three steals as his 518 squad fell to Da Bombers in the King of Kings Summer League in Utica New York. It was the final game of the summer for 518.

In three games Fredette scored 90 points (30.0 per game) and had 15 assists (5.0 per game), seven steals (2.3) and nine rebounds (3.0).
