Fun with names

The NBC Sports College Basketball Talk blog posted its Unified College Basketball All-Name Team today and 'honored' three Cougars for their appellations.

Sophomore guard Anson Winder was named to the All-Country Club Second Team. On Dec. 27 he'll face a fellow Country Club second teamer in Gaellen Bewernick of Northern Arizona.

Freshman guard Cooper Ainge earned a spot on the All-Southern Dandy First Team along with Calib Tannehill (Oral Roberts), Grey Cooksey (Cal State Northridge), Judson Hall (Charleston) and Keegan Hornbuckle (UC Santa Barabara).

Senior guard Brock Zylstra earned a spot on the least flattering team, the All-Disease Team. Hopefully numerous BYU opponents will be complaining about serious cases of Brock Zylstra this coming season.

Former Cougar Trent Plaisted, who has played professionally in Croatia, Ukraine, Turkey and Lithuania since leaving BYU, is on the LA Clippers training camp roster. The team arrived in China yesterday and will play the defending world champion Miami Heat in exhibition games on Thursday and Sunday. The Clippers' website is covering the team's trip and today the squad visited the Great Wall of China.

While at BYU from 2004 to 2008, Plaisted averaged 13.3 points and 6.7 rebounds and shot .535 from the field. He led BYU to back-to-back conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2007 and 2008. The Seattle Super Sonics drafted Plaisted in the second round (46th overall) of the 2008 NBA Draft and traded his rights to the Detroit Pistons. In the summer of 2010 he participated in the NBA Summer League with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Chicago Bulls. That fall he was on the 76ers' training camp roster.
