The roster for the 2012-13 men’s basketball season has been posted on BYUcougars.com. This season’s roster includes 16 players — 13 on scholarship and three non-scholarship players (returning senior Craig Cusick, returned missionary and redshirt freshman Kyle Rose and freshman Cooper Ainge). Here are some of interesting facts to help you get to know this season’s team.

Starting Experience

Nine players on the 2012-13 roster have starting experience (total of 178 starts) and four of those have started the majority of a single season (Brandon Davies, Tyler Haws, Brock Zylstra and Matt Carlino). By comparison, only four players had starting experience entering the 2011-12 season (total of 128 career starts) and one of those was Chris Collinsworth, who played just two games last season before sitting out the rest of the year with a knee injury. Despite fielding a roster that had few players with starting experience and included seven newcomers, coach Dave Rose led the 2011-12 Cougars to 26 wins and a victory in the NCAA Tournament.

Name Career Starts

Tyler Haws 33
Brock Zylstra 28
Matt Carlino 24
Anson Winder 15
Chris Collinsworth 10
Craig Cusick 3
Stephen Rogers 2

Statistics

The 2012-13 roster returns more statisically in every category except for blocks than the 2011-12 roster did from the previous season. It is also important to note that the numbers for entering 2012-13 do not include any statistics from Tyler Haws's freshman season in 2009-10, when he totaled 397 points, 146 rebounds, 54 assists, five blocks, 26 steals and made 25 3-pointers. He also made his final 48 free throw attempts, a BYU record streak he will look to add to this season.
