Skyler Halford scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Cougars to an 87-53 victory over San Diego. Halford shot 11 of 16 on the night and connected on four 3-pointers. Tyler Haws scored 17 points and Erik Mika scored 13 before leaving the game early in the second half due to injury. Kyle Collinsworth contributed 12 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.
Holding an 18-point halftime advantage, the Cougars quickly extended their lead to 26 on two buckets from Halford and a dunk from Mika. Mika was fouled on the play and made the free throw to complete the 3-point play.
Another 3-pointer from Halford and 3-point play by Haws extended the lead to 61-30 with just over 13 minutes remaining.
The Cougars lead hovered above 30 for the remainder of the game, highlighted by a Nate Austin dunk, a Collinsworth 3 and back-to-back 3s by Anson Winder.
BYU shot 53 percent to San Diego’s 34 and outrebounded the Toreros 45-27.
