Live from the KSL 5 TV studios, head coach Dave Rose kicked off his weekly show with a full recap of last week's action against Portland. The Cougars had just one game last week, on Saturday, against Portland in the Marriott Center. BYU won 86-72.
"We had a long week, which was nice, and played really well. I think our guys were very dialed in on the challenge we gave them to come and compete together as a group. Everyone has different ideas of how to fix things but we needed to do it together, and I'm happy with how that happened on Saturday."
BYU's ability to play as a team was highlighted by coach Rose. Brandon Davies's performance against the Pilots was also highlighted.
"One of our major themes on offense was to share the ball, and I think that even transitioned over to the defensive side. I'm happy to see the guys come out with the emphasis of playing together. It's great to see Brandon getting the points he deserves out there."
The jersey retirement of Mel Hutchins and Roland Minson was talked about, and coach Rose said the two former players spent a few minutes before the game in the locker room talking to the players.
Later in the show, coach Rose talked about the team's strategy for getting a basket off in-bounds plays. And to finish the show, coach Rose talked about how the rest of the West Coast Conference teams are shaping up and previewed BYU's upcoming week with games against Utah State and Saint Mary's.
