BYU came out on fire in the second half as they put away Portland behind a career night by Matt Carlino. He continued his hot shooting, tying his career-high in points with 30, on a career-high eight made 3-pointers. The eight threes are most in a game since 2009 when Jimmer Fredette hit nine.
BYU extended its lead to a game-high 25 as the Cougars held a double-digit lead for the rest of the game, winning 89-72.
Anson Winder had 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting while Tyler Haws chipped in 15 points. Kyle Collinsworth had a team-high 11 rebounds and seven assists.
