Welcome to the Thanksgiving edition of the BYU Hoops Mailbag. A few things we're thankful for around these parts this week: Eric Mika's goggles, Tyler Haws' mastery of H-O-R-S-E, being an "older" team, an orange ball, a round hoop and of course family, friends and BYU fans. Now on to the questions.

Carly from Hooper asked:

The Cougars lost to Iowa State who are coached by former NBA player Fred Hoiberg, what's BYU's record in games against teams with former NBA players as head coaches?

BYU is 7-8 against current NCAA coaches who played in the NBA. There are currently 13 NCAA Division I coaches who have played in the NBA. The Cougars have only faced five of the 13 and have only faced former New Mexico head coach Steve Alford more than twice. Utah's Larry Krystowiak is the only other coach on the list BYU will face this season after beating Stanford's Johnny Dawkins two weeks ago and falling to Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg last week.

Spencer from South Jordan asked:

The Cougars lost to Wichita State last night. When was the last time BYU faced a Final Four participant from the previous year?

The last time the Cougars faced a team who made it to the Final Four the previous season was in 2006 against UCLA. BYU lost 82-69 in the game played in Los Angeles, Calif. The Bruins had lost in the title game a season earlier.

Since 1990, BYU has played seven games against the previous year's Final Four participants. BYU is 0-7 and has only played one of the seven teams in the Marriott Center, while four of the seven games have been on neutral courts and one was in the NCAA tournament. Duke, North Carolina and Syracuse were all defending champions, while the other three games were against teams that lost in the title game. Wichita State was the first Final Four team BYU has faced since 1990 that didn't make it to the title game.
