BYU started fast and held on to lead 33-30 over Pepperdine at the break.
The Cougars were led by Tyler Haws 13 points while Kyle Collinsworth and Skyler Halford added seven points each. Collinsworth also brought down five rebounds and dished out three assists.
BYU started off hot going on a 12-0 run led by seven points from Haws and an NBA range 3-pointer from Halford. The Waves used an 8-2 run to close within six as the Cougars struggled on the offensive end. After trading baskets, Pepperdine went on a 7-0 run to pull within one at 18-17 with 9:40 left in the half.
The Cougars responded with a 6-0 run to push the lead back to seven at 24-17 behind four points from Collinsworth. The Waves responded again going on a 6-0 run of their own to cut the lead back to one with just over six minutes until the break.
Pepperdine would tie the game twice at 28 and 30, but the Cougars would score the final three points of the half to take the lead into the locker room.
