BYU men’s basketball will host Georgia State on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center. The game is the second in the Acura Coaches vs. Cancer Classic and is the first-ever meting between the two teams.
Led by its three captains, BYU won its 2012-13 season opener 81-66 over Tennessee State last Friday.
Sophomore Tyler Haws led all scorers with 22 points on 7 of 15 shooting while adding four rebounds and one assist. Seniors Brandon Davies and Brock Zylstra also scored in double digits, picking up 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Georgia State opened its 2012-13 season with a 74-55 loss at college basketball powerhouse No. 8 Duke.
Junior Devonta White, the Panthers’ only returning starter, led Georgia State with 19 points on 6 of 13 shooting. R.J. Hunter, the son of Panther head coach Ron Turner, posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards.
The Panthers finished their 2011-12 season with a 64-59 loss to Mercer in the round of 16 of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Georgia State finished the season 22-12 for the second-most wins in school history and the CIT was the team’s first postseason birth since 2002.
