KAZAN, Russia -- Tyler Haws and the USA World University Games squad celebrated the 4th of July in style with a 94-60 victory over Russian professional team UNICS in Basket Hall 1.
Haws came off the bench to score 12 points, grab three rebounds and record two steals. He was one of team USA's more efficient players on the offensive end as he hit 3 of 5 from the field and all six of his attempts from the charity stripe. Haws was one of six players in double figures as Luke Hancock (Louisville) had 14 points, Doug McDermott (Creighton) scored 13 and Treveon Graham (VCU), Will Sheehey (Indiana) and Aaron White (Iowa) all tallied 11 points apiece.
Graham also led the team with eight rebounds and Yogi Ferrell dished out a team-high eight assists.
Haws sent me a short email after the game saying that "it's an honor (to represent the USA on the 4th of July)! We are blessed to live in America. It's been really cool meeting and seeing different people from different countries. I've been impressed with how fun to be around everybody is."
