Christmas in San Francisco!

In addition to practicing on Tuesday and Christmas Day in preparation for Friday's Fight Hunger Bowl against Washington, BYU enjoyed the opportunity to serve the local community spending Christmas morning at St. Anthony's Dining Room.

Usually feeding about 2,000 people per day, the St. Anthony's Dining Room was able to feed more than 3,000 people from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with the Cougars on hand lending assistance. Members of the team came in two shifts during the morning to work alongside the good people at St. Anthony's Dining Room. In addition to meals, patrons of St. Anthony's were provided gift packets handed out by the team.

Opportunities to serve on Christmas Day were arranged by the Fight Hunger Bowl and both BYU and Washington were happy to take advantage of those opportunities.

In addition to the service at St. Anthony's Dining Room, grass roots efforts generated by Bay Area Stakes of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on behalf of BYU Alumni resulted in 1,500 pounds of food and $5,000 donated to the San Francisco Food Bank on Saturday, Dec. 21. Those resources allow the SF Food Bank to provide the equivalent of 15,000 meals to feed the needy in San Francisco.

Many thanks to the Church members and BYU Alumni who responded and joined this cause. The spirit of giving is remarkable at this time of year and the effort is ongoing this week.
