With the completion of 2011 BYU Football Media Day, we went behind the scenes with members of the Athletic Communications staff to talk about Media Day and the preparation that went into making this day a success.

Duff Tittle, associate athletic director for communications, talks about how the idea of Media Day came about.

“When we decided to go independent, that meant that we wouldn't have the opportunity to have a conference media day, so we decided to dream of what a media day would be if we had our own and that led to us coming to BYUtv.  We had lots and lots of meetings and we spent hundreds of hours between our staff and the staff at BYUtv.”

Brett Pyne, the director of media relations for BYU football, commented on the preparation that has gone into planning Media Day.

“There has been a lot of work that has gone into producing this media day. This has been something that we have been planning for months and it’s not something that just came together recently because we just wanted to announce something. It’s basically a day where we provide media members an opportunity to have access to our program and to get content they can use.”

Media Day was also a debut of the collaboration between Athletic Communications and BYU Broadcasting, a duo that will be working together often with the announcement of independence.

“It takes a huge team effort to pull off an event like this and I thought the folks at BYU broadcasting and BYUtv were just unbelievable,” Tittle said. “We did things today that were pretty groundbreaking and things that people typically don’t do on media days and to also have ESPN as our national broadcasting partner and to have them here in full force was amazing. “
