Here's the start of a series of Q&A's with players on the team. We'll start with the No. 1's and work our way down the roster throughout the season.

No. 1 Joe Sampson, Sr., DB, Oakland, CA

Q: Why did you pick to come to BYU?
A: The environment, the fans, the people. It’s a great place.

Q: If you could have one talent what would it be?
A: Golf. Golfers make a lot of money. I’ve only golfed one time. My favorite golfer is Tiger Woods.

Q: Who’s the funniest guy on the team?
A: Kyle Van Noy is probably the funniest guy on the team. He’s the funniest talking, anyway. Just listening to him talk makes everybody laugh.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about your position?
A: Knowing that I have control over the whole defense. Basically, I’m the quarterback on defense.

Q: If you had to play a different position, what would it be?
A: I’d play running back. That’s what I use to play in high school. They won’t let me go both ways now, but I’m still trying to get my carries.

No. 1 Ross Apo, So., WR, Arlington, TX

Q: One thing about coach Mendenhall that has influenced you?
A: The one thing about coach that has influenced me is how humble he is.

Q: What’s the most interest thing about yourself?
A: I’m super clean and neat.

Q: If you had to play a different position, what would it be?
A: I would play quarterback because they touch the ball on every play.

Q: What Olympic sport would you be good at and why?
A: I would do the long jump because I can jump pretty far and high.

Q: What’s your favorite part of your hometown?
A: My favorite part of Dallas is the food, specifically anything fried.
