BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy and wide receiver Cody Hoffman were both named to the Preseason All-America Teams by College Sports Madness. Van Noy was named to the first team while Hoffman earned second-team honors.
Van Noy and Hoffman were also named the College Sports Madness Independent Preseason All-Conference Defensive and Offensive Players of the Year, respectively.
In addition to Van Noy and Hoffman, Bronson Kaufusi (DL), Daniel Sorensen (DB), Jordan Johnson (DB), Ryker Mathews (OL) and JD Falslev (PR) were named to the Preseason All-Independent First Team. Spencer Hadley (LB), Ross Apo (WR), Kaneakua Friel (TE) and Manaaki Vaitai (OL) earned second-team honors while Eathyn Manumaleuna (DL), Taysom Hill (QB), Jamaal Williams (RB) and Solomone Kafu (OL) were named to the third team.
Last month Hoffman and Van Noy were also named to Phil Steele’s Preseason All-America Teams. Van Noy, a 6-3 senior, was recently named to Athlon’s Preseason All-America First Team. Last year, he finished tied No. 2 nationally in sacks and fumbles. In 2011 and 2012 Van Noy was the only player to record a statistic in every major defensive category.
Hoffman leads all returning FBS receivers in career receiving touchdowns and is No. 3 in career receptions and No. 4 in receiving yards. The 6-4 senior has caught a pass in 32 straight games, good for No. 3 nationally entering 2013, and 38 of 39 career games. Hoffman needs just 19 receptions, 538 yards and three touchdowns to become the BYU leader in each of those categories.
The Cougars kickoff their season Aug. 31 on the road against Virginia.
