  • As the bus readied to roll out of the Miller Park lot this afternoon to the Salt Lake City airport for the baseball team flying to Reno, Nevada, Thursday’s starting pitcher Chris Capper came by sporting a well-groomed mustache. “It’s Mustache March,” said Capper, who pointed out that teammates Chris

BYU's baseball team flew to Oregon yesterday, but Thursday's baseball game with the University of Portland has been postponed to Friday due to rain.

The Pilots and Cougars are scheduled to now play a doubleheader on Friday at the newly-opened Hilken Stadium.  Hilken Stadium is at Concordia University in Portland, one of at least seven four-year schools with the name Concordia--others are located in New York, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Chicago and Texas.

Update as of Sunday night, Coach Vance Law reports the team's flight is delayed until midnight out of Denver.

TD Ameritrade Park Omaha is the site of this year's College World Series (June 15-25/26) after years competing at Rosenblatt Stadium (where BYU played in the 1968 and 1971 College World Series; the Cougars had qualified to play in 1958 and 1961 but declined because of Sunday play).

BYU's baseball team made its debut in the West Coach Conference.  Going into the game first-year pitching Coach Wally Ritchie said the feelings are different for him compared to when he was a Major League pitcher because, "I can't get in there and compete myself," saying he now depends on players following his tutelage.

Day 6: Royals/Beach

Nov 25, 2011 - Posted by Ralph R. Zobell at 8:04 pm | Updated: November 25, 2011 8:37 pm | Permalink

Today was our last game of the series in the D.R. We left the hotel at 8:00 a.m., for the Royals' compound. However, we weren't expecting the delay we encountered. We were on two buses, the first carrying a trailer full of the baseball equipment. The road we were traveling on was a dirt/clay road and with all the rain they've been getting, it was extremely muddy. Needless to say, the road won. The team had to unhook the trailer and push the bus back onto the road. Then they had to drag the trailer back to meet the bus.

Day 5: Red Sox/Thanksgiving

We got on the bus at 8:00 a.m., and drove for about 40 minutes to the DR Red Sox complex. They have nice facilities with a couple of fields and dormitories for the players. Today felt like the hottest day so far that we've had since being here. We aren't quite sure what the temp was, but it had to be in the 90s at least. Coupled with the humidity, the players were drenched in sweat within minutes. Hot day, but a great one because we won, 16-2. Lots of guys were able to contribute with runs and hits.

Day 4: Service

Today (Wednesday) was full of service opportunities for the baseball team.  Five Star Legacy Foundation organized the entire day for us to provide things to those in need throughout the day.  It was a long and busy day, but we got so much accomplished.
