Rose makes sandwiches for Coaches vs. Cancer

BYU basketball coach Dave Rose teamed up with UVU coach and former Cougar assistant Mark Pope to make sandwiches at Subway in Orem as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising campaign that began on Jan. 16 and will run through Feb. 11. Read more about the event at

BYU locks in over San Francisco, 85-75

Eric Mika shot for nine points within the first four minutes of the second half, taking BYU to a 47-41 advantage over San Francisco. A steal from Yoeli Childs set TJ Haws up for a jumper five minutes into the half, helping the Cougar's 51-41 lead against the Dons.

Freshman Yoeli Childs started the matchup with two quick back-to-back layups a minute into the first period. With a 3-pointer from Nick Emery, the Cougars took a five-point lead over the San Francisco Dons, 7-2.

Yoeli Childs dunked for the Cougars’ first points of the second half. An L.J. Rose 3-pointer extended BYU’s advantage 54-33 with 18:39 on the clock. Back-to-back dunks by Eric Mika then gave the Cougars a 25-point lead. The Tigers made their first 3-pointer of the night with 14 minutes to go to counter BYU’s 67-42 advantage.

Freshman TJ Haws opened the West Coast Conference matchup with a basket from the top of the arc. After two and a half minutes of play, Nick Emery capped the Cougars’ 8-1 opening run with a 3-pointer.

BYU blows out Santa Clara, 89-59

Coming out of the break, Mika again came away with the first points of the half, and sophomore Nick Emery then found his first points of the game with a jumper to put the Cougars up 47-26.

Cougars carry double-digit lead over Broncos at the break

Despite the Broncos winning the opening tipoff, Cougar senior Eric Mika came away with the first four points of the game. After two quick fouls on freshman Yoeli Childs, sophomore Braiden Shaw checked into the game. Senior L.J. Rose came away with a three-point play after a takeaway on the other end and the Cougars went up 7-3.

Freshman Yoeli Childs scored nine of the Cougars’ first 16 second half points to give BYU a 63-45 lead with 11:33 on the clock. The Roadrunners reduced the Cougars’ 22-point lead to 10 points with 8:08 left to play.

BYU responded with successful trips to the charity stripe throughout the half, shooting 63.6 percent, and extended its lead to 14 points, 77-63, with 2:16 left.

The Cougars opened the game on a 14-2 run, beginning with six straight points from sophomore Eric Mika. Freshman TJ Haws and senior L.J. Rose hit back-to-back 3-pointers before freshman Yoeli Childs threw down a dunk with 15:39 on the clock

Four minutes into the second half, BYU extended it's lead over Idaho State to 12, 49-37, on a Braiden Shaw wrap-around layup. Eric Mika sank two free throws to give him 17 points with 13:53 to go. Mika finished the game with a game-high 19 points, going 8 of 13 from the field.
