Following are summaries of several 2013-14 preview magazines.

Athlon Sports: America’s Premier Sports Publisher, College Basketball

BYU guard Tyler Haws was selected to the 2013-14 Athlon Sports Preseason All-America Second Team. Haws was seventh in the nation in scoring and led the West Coast Conference at 21.7 points per game.

Boom Shakalaka: Jason Gray, Dunk Contest judge

We have announced 2013 Miss Utah USA Marissa Powell and former Cougar Mike Hall as Boom Shakalaka Dunk Contest judges. This afternoon we're excited to announce Jason Gray of BYUtv's Studio C as a judge.

Yesterday we announced Mike Hall as our first judge for the Boom Shakalaka Dunk Contest. Today we introduce our second judge, Miss Utah USA Marissa Powell.

We will be announcing the Dunk Contest judges for Boom Shakalaka: The BYU Basketball Showcase, over the next several days. Our first judge is former Cougar Mike Hall.

Mike Hall played for the Cougars from 2003 to 2005 after transferring from Dixie State and averaged 13.3 points in his two season at BYU. He was the 2004 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year and helped lead the Cougars to the 2004 NCAA Tournament.

With practice starting, the BYU men's basketball team is getting up to speed -- literally. There's a lot more to head coach Dave Rose's system than just running, but whether it's called pace, transition, speed or up-tempo it's the first step in making everyone fit together on the court.

Rose talks about his health and the upcoming season

On Sept. 9, BYU basketball coach Dave Rose underwent surgery as part of his cancer treatment. On Saturday, Sept. 21, he addressed his health on the BYUtv and Cougar IMG Sports Network pregame shows prior to the BYU vs. Utah football game. Rose is expecting to be ready to coach when the team begins practice on Oct. 7.

Haws making connections in Kazan

World traveler and BYU Cougar Tyler Haws will wrap up his tour in Kazan, Russia, tomorrow when Team USA takes on Finland in the 9th/10th place game at the World University Games at 5 a.m. MT. After a disappointing end to pool play, Team USA has rebounded with back-to-back wins over Norway and Germany to earn a spot in the championship of the classification bracket.

With Tyler Haws and his teammates ready to open the World University games on Sunday, here are a few highlights from the opening ceremonies and a great feature from KSL 5 on Tyler and his father Marty.

Haws and his teammates participated in the opening ceremonies of the World University Games on Saturday. His teammate Luke Hancock of Louisville was the flag bearer for the U.S. delegation of more than 300 athletes.

Check out a few photos from Tyler Haws off the court in Kazan, Russia. The World University Games opening ceremonies are tonight and games start tomorrow. The USA opens with United Arab Emirates on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET on ESPN3.com.
