Cougars lead CSU Bakersfield, 47-27, at halftime

The Cougars opened the game on a 14-2 run, beginning with six straight points from sophomore Eric Mika. Freshman TJ Haws and senior L.J. Rose hit back-to-back 3-pointers before freshman Yoeli Childs threw down a dunk with 15:39 on the clock

Four minutes into the second half, BYU extended it's lead over Idaho State to 12, 49-37, on a Braiden Shaw wrap-around layup. Eric Mika sank two free throws to give him 17 points with 13:53 to go. Mika finished the game with a game-high 19 points, going 8 of 13 from the field.

Fueled by eight quick points by Eric Mika, the Cougars started out the game on a 10-3 run. At the 11:08 mark, Steven Beo completed the 3-point play to put BYU up 17-8 after a three-minute scoring drought.

With 4:08 to go in the first half of play, L.J. Rose extended the Cougar lead to 16, 35-19, after converting three-straight 3-point field goals.

BYU comes away with victory over Colorado, 79-71

Eric Mika and TJ Haws combined for five points in the first minute of the second half, and Haws found the basket for another 3-pointer to put the Cougars up 48-42.  A steal from Nick Emery and a layup from Yoeli Childs extended the edge to ten for the Cougars by the 15-minute mark and forced Colorado into the first timeout of the half.

Freshman Yoeli Childs logged the first points of the game a quick 15 seconds after the opening tipoff. Childs also found himself wide open for a dunk before sophomore Nick Emery hit a trey and a layup to give BYU a 9-3 lead in the opening minutes. With 12 minutes remaining they extended their lead to eight, 21-13, but Colorado got back in the contest with a 3-pointer.

BYU defeats Weber State 77-66

BYU made the first two baskets of the second half before the Wildcats sparked a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to three. Yoeli Childs put the Cougars back in action with a jump shot as BYU led 43-38 with 15:57 to go. The Cougars went cold from the field as Weber State tied the game 47-47 on a 3-pointer with 12:28 left in the game. BYU answered with a 6-2 run to build momentum and retake a 53-49 lead. BYU led by as many as 13 before sealing the game 77-66.

BYU got off to a hot start with a 7-0 run before the Wildcats scored the next seven points. An Eric Mika jump shot gave the Cougars a 16-14 advantage with 13:13 on the clock. Kyle Davis made a layup and free-throw for a 27-22 lead. Yoeli Childs hit a jump shot as the Cougars led 31-24 with 6:10 left.

After Utah State cut BYU’s six-point halftime lead to four, 37-33, Eric Mika made 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to make it 38-33. A key block from Mika swung the momentum in BYU’s favor with 17:08 on the clock, setting up a 15-7 Cougar run.

Cougars claim edge over Aggies at the half

Utah State claimed the first points of the matchup and led BYU until TJ Haws drove to the basket and found the first Cougar points, shortening the Aggies’ lead, 5-2. Senior LJ Rose contributed two free throws and shortly after fed Eric Mika with an over-the-shoulder pass which was converted into a dunk, giving the Cougars a 6-5 lead.

Eric Mika put up eight quick points to open up the second half of play, giving the Cougars a commanding 48-31 lead. TJ Haws followed quickly with a 3-pointer, and the lead was lengthened to 20. An alley-oop fed to Mika from L.J. Rose five minutes into the half got the crowd on its feet and gave even more momentum to BYU.
