The WCC recently posted a video interview with BYU basketball coach Dave Rose. He took the time to reflect on last season, the quality of WCC basketball and his excitement for the future.

The BYU basketball coaching staff participated in Relay for Life 2012 at Provo High School last week. Relay for Life is the biggest fundraising event for the American Cancer Society and is held in cities throughout the world. BYU Photo was there to capture some of the action. The roster for the 2012-13 men’s basketball season has been posted on This season’s roster includes 16 players — 13 on scholarship and three non-scholarship players (returning senior Craig Cusick, returned missionary and redshirt freshman Kyle Rose and freshman Cooper Ainge).

Cougars in NBA Summer League

Former Cougar and 2011 NCAA National Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette concluded a successful week at the 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with a 19-point, five-assist performance in a 91-82 win over the Boston Celtics.

Fredette, a member of the Sacramento Kings, averaged 18.0 point, 3.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Despite struggling shooting from the field, he averaged eight free throw attempts per game and shot 87.5 percent from the charity stripe.

Rose featured in Coaches vs. Cancer commercial

BYU basketball coach Dave Rose is one of the featured coaches in a recent commercial for Coaches vs. Cancer. Rose has been involved with Coaches vs. Cancer his entire career and he was named a member of the National Coaches vs. Cancer Council in April. The council assists Coaches vs. Cancer in its efforts to raise awareness and funding. The council also includes Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Roy Williams (North Carolina), Jim Boeheim (Syracuse) and Mike Brey (Notre Dame).

Fredette to play in NBA Summer League

Former Cougar and 2012 NCAA National Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette will take his talents to Las Vegas for a week to play in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Fredette will be joined by current Kings teammate Hassan Whiteside, the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, Thomas Robinson, and a collection of rookies and free agents.

Tavernari enjoys successful season in Italy

Former Cougar Jonathan Tavernari had a successful season in Italy playing for Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia in the LegaDue.

Tavernari averaged 10.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals while shooting 39.4 percent from downtown as Giorgio Tesi finished 18-10 in the regular season and advanced to the LegaDue Finals. Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia fell to Enel Brindisi 3-1 in the best-of-five series.

Hartsock invited to Utah Jazz pre-draft workout

Former BYU Cougar Noah Hartsock has been invited to a pre-draft workout with the Utah Jazz on Saturday at the Zions Bank Basketball Center. Hartsock was BYU's leading scorer this past season at 16.8 points per game and led the Cougars to a 26-9 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. He earned All-WCC and All-District honors.
