BYU leads Hawaii 37-30 at the half

Hawaii opened up the game on a 7-0 run, forcing BYU to call a timeout with 17:23 left in the first half.

The Cougars answered back with its own run. Tyler Haws got two straight buckets and Kyle Collinsworth threw it down to get within one. Collinsworth found Winder at the other end of the court and threw it to him for two quick points and the 8-7 lead for BYU with 15:55 left in the first half.

Senior guard Tyler Haws finished the season sixth in the nation in points and fifth in scoring in 2014. That season-long performance earned him the WCC Player of the Year award, an All-America Honorable Mention award, three All-Region first team awards and he was named to the All-High Major First Team. This season, Haws is chasing the BYU career scoring mark, a third year in the top 10 in the nation in scoring and he's on several national award lists.

Kyle Collinsworth scored the first BYU points in the second half with a putback layup and followed it up with a steal and an assist to Chase Fischer in transition to hold a 36-33 lead at the 18:00 mark. The Cougars went on a 15-3 run to extend their lead to 49-36 with 14:35 left in the game.

Chase Fischer opened the game with a 3-pointer but the Colonels took a 10-7 lead less than five minutes into the game. Tyler Haws made a shot from beyond the arc to tie it at 10 apiece at the 15:16 mark, and tied it again at 12-12 with Skyler Halford’s assist to Haws running the baseline for the layup.

Anson Winder, Luke Worthington and Chase Fischer paced BYU early in the second half, combining for 14 points as the Cougars stretched their lead to 74-28 seven minutes into the half.

BYU won the tip and capitalized on its first possession, with senior guard Tyler Haws knocking down a jumper. Haws and sophomore guard Luke Worthington accounted for all of BYU's first 13 points, as the Cougars jumped out to a 13-4 lead five minutes into the game.

The Cougars opened the second half with a 14-5 start that included Chase Fischer and Tyler Haws’ shots from beyond the arc and a Haws steal and dunk on the break to extend their lead 51-33. The Trojans responded with an 8-0 run of their own but ended on Anson Winder’s 3-pointer at the 13:27 mark to keep BYU’s lead 56-44.

The Cougars and Trojans started with a back-and-forth battle with Tyler Haws scoring the first BYU points at the 18:52 mark to trail 3-2. Chase Fischer hit one from deep to tie it at 5 apiece with Luke Worthington’s dunk giving the Cougars a 13-11 lead five minutes into the half.

BYU beat Long Beach State 95-90 at the Marriott Center on Friday in a game that had a total of 24 3-pointers made.

BYU lead 9-5 at the first timeout with 15:40 left in the game. Tyler Haws started the game shooting 3 of 3 from the field, two of which were shots from beyond the arc. Anson Winder had a block to stop a breakaway LBS bucket. The 49ers went on a 7-2 run to put them within one of the Cougars, 20-19 with 12:10 left.
