Cougars beat Pilots 97-88

The Cougars began the second half strong. Two steals in a row from Kyle Collinsworth and Chase Fischer led to two transition buckets by Tyler Haws and Fischer to give BYU the 50-39 lead with 18:30 left.

BYU opened up the game with a steal by Anson Winder that led to a 3-pointer from Tyler Haws to take the early 3-0 lead. Winder nailed another three to go up 10-6 with 16:55 remaining in the first half.

Gonzaga wins 87-80

BYU took its first lead of the game on three free throws from Tyler Haws to start the second half. The teams exchanged buckets with BYU keeping the advantage until Gonzaga’s Kevin Pangos scored off a turnover to tie the score at 49.

Moments later, Corbin Kaufusi dunked the ball to break the tie. Kyle Collinsworth laid the ball in over the top of Gonzaga’s Byron Wesley for the largest Cougar lead of the game at 55-49.

The Zags hit first with back-to-back baskets from Kyle Wiltjer. BYU tied the score at four on free throws by Worthington, but Gonzaga answered with a 12-0 run.

BYU wouldn’t score another field goal until the 12-minute mark. Tyler Haws threw down a field goal, which Skyler Halford followed with a 3-pointer.

BYU defeats UMass in overtime, 77-71

UMass jumped out to a 67-63 lead at the 3:42 mark of overtime. A jumper by Kyle Collinsworth and two free throws by Anson Winder gave BYU its first lead of overtime, 69-68.

The second half went much like the first half with BYU holding a small lead until a 9-0 run by UMass midway through the half put the Minutemen up by four points, 45-41.

A 3-pointer by Anson Winder gave the Cougars a two-point lead with 6:05 left in the second half but UMass responded on the next possession to tie it up, 55-55.

The Cougars started quick with a Chase Fischer 3-pointer and held an early 9-4 lead after the first three minutes of play. The Minutemen responded with a 12-0 run to take a 16-9 lead.

After a scoring drought of almost five minutes, BYU went on a 7-0 run thanks to seven quick points off the bench from Anson Winder and Skyler Halford.

The two teams kept it close early in the second half, trading points back and forth. Anson Winder hit a three with 14:35 left to put BYU up 48-44. Winder went coast-to-coast through the defenders to make a layup, but Stanford answered back by scoring on two straight possessions.

The Cougars started off strong, scoring on their first six possessions to go up 13-4 early in the game, five of those points coming from Chase Fischer. Stanford answered back with a 6-0 run before a jumper from Tyler Haws pushed BYU’s lead to 15-10 with 14:52 left in the first half.

Senior guard Tyler Haws continues his move up the record books. This week he moved into the top 10 in 3-pointers made, minutes played and games started at BYU. He passed Anthony Ireland on the West Coast Conference career scoring list for all games. Haws also set the WCC record for made free throws in a career and continues to add to it. He's also now top five nationally in five offensive categories and is top 25 in seven categories.
