The BYU men’s basketball team (4-2) will play its first of two games this season in Salt Lake City at Energy Solutions Arena tonight when they take on Montana at 7 p.m. MST.

BYU is coming off back-to-back home victories over UT-San Antonio, 81-62, and Cal State Northridge most recently in an 87-75 finish.

Since 1993, BYU men's basketball has played at EnergySolutions Arena (known as the Delta Center from 1991 to 2006) 14 times and has two games scheduled there this season (Nov. 28 vs. Montana and Dec. 29 vs. Virginia Tech). In 1993 and 1994 BYU went 3-2 at ESA in Western Athletic Conference Tournament games.

BYU is coming off an 88-70 loss to Florida State and a 78-68 loss to Notre Dame, both on the road. The games are the first consecutive regular season losses since the 2008-09 season (Jan. 17 at New Mexico, Jan. 21 vs. UNLV). The Cougars have never lost three-straight with Rose at the helm.

BYU basketball coach Dave Rose was on BYUtv's True Blue yesterday to discuss the five high school players that signed National Letters of Intent last week. Rose also discussed Kyle Collinsworth — who is serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Russia — returning to the program next season.

Yesterday the Cougars practiced in the Barclays Center practice gym and today had a shoot around on the playing floor to get ready for tonight's game against Florida State at 7 p.m. EST. The Barclays opened this fall and is pretty incredible. One of the highlights so far was riding in a bus elevator down into the building and coming out 50 feet from where the games will be played.

Before practice today, BYU basketball toured the Hope Lodge in Manhattan. Hope Lodges are run by the American Cancer Society and offer cancer patients and their caregivers a free, temporary place to stay when their best hope for effective treatment may be in another city. There are 31 Hope Lodges in the United States.

BYU opened last night’s game with an impressive display of offensive efficiency and defensive prowess as the Cougars sandwiched Georgia State’s first basket between runs of 15-0 and 16-0 to lead 31-2.
