Cougars in the Pros: Tavernari scores a combined 33 points in two games

Jonathan Tavernari finished with a double double, 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in an 89-81 win against Paulistano last Friday. Despite a loss to Paulistano on a back-to-back, Tavernari scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds in 39 minutes of play the following night.  

Charles Abouo finished with 15 points and seven rebounds in a 71-68 loss to Andorra on Friday night. 

Haws and Carlino lead BYU to victory

The second half played out much like with the first half with Matt Carlino and Tyler Haws leading the way to an 81-72 victory.

BYU leads Weber State 44-33 at the half

Juniors Matt Carlino and Tyler Haws led BYU to a 44-33 halftime lead over in-state rival Weber State.

Haws scored 14 points with eight rebounds and Carlino had 11 points with four assists and two steals.

Cougars looking forward to season opener at home

After cruising through their two exhibition games, the Cougars will open their season at home against Weber State Friday night.

After Thursday's practice, Dave Rose expressed his excitement on starting the regular season against a challenging team.

This season the BYU Athletic Communications staff will start a weekly mailbag where fans can get questions answered related to Cougar hoops. It can be a historical question, a burning question about this year's team, some statistical minutae, a detail you noticed on television, questions about how the West Coast Conference is performing or anything else – but not recruiting. Try to aim for something higher than is 'so-and-so single?' We'll put together a selection of questions and answers each Wednesday throughout the season.

BYU takes the 99-68 victory against Alaska Anchorage

BYU hit a 21-point lead on a Kyle Collinsworth layup with 15:14 left to play. Up 56-35, Anson Winder’s trey and another Collinsworth jumper capped off a 13-0 Cougar run. Free throws by Skyler Halford took the BYU lead to 70-40.

Collinsworth scored 12 points before the midway point in the second half, adding to his 14-point game total.

BYU leads Alaska Anchorage 44-30 at halftime

BYU trailed 10-4 early in the first half. Matt Carlino tied the score at 12 with 14:10 to go in the half and took the Cougars’ first lead on a jumper moments later, part of a 10-2 BYU run. Skyler Halford took the Cougars to a double-digit lead, 27-17, with a 3-pointer off a Frank Bartley assist with 7:46 on the clock.
