Jr. National Team advances to NORCECA semifinals

BYU’s freshman Ben Patch and the U.S. Men’s Junior National Volleyball Team routed Mexico 25-18, 25-18, 25-20 to capture Pool A in 2012 NORCECA Men’s Junior Continental Championship (U-21).

With the win the U.S. (3-0) secured a spot in the semifinals Friday, bypassing the quarterfinal round. The top three finishing teams in the NORCECA Men's Junior Continental Championship earn berths into the 2013 FIVB Volleyball Men's Junior World Championship.

Patch and Jr. National Team secure second win

The U.S. Men’s Junior (U-21) National Team swept its second straight opponent in the 2012 NORCECA Men’s Junior (U-21) Continental Championship, topping St. Vincent 25-8, 25-8, 25-9 Tuesday.

BYU men’s volleyball’s freshman Ben Patch started the first set at middle blocker and posted three points off of two kills and a block.

Team USA will wrap up pool play Wednesday against Mexico.

The U.S. Men’s Junior (U-21) National Team opened play at the 2012 NORCECA Men’s Junior (U-21) Continental Championship with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-16 sweep over Honduras on Monday evening at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Three recruits win bronze medal with Jr. National

Three 2013 BYU men’s volleyball recruits won a bronze medal at the USA Volleyball Boys’ Junior National Championships in Dallas earlier this month. 

The team won nine of its 11 matches, all by 2-0 scores, to earn a bronze medal out of the 33 teams in its pool. The team finished winning a total of 20 sets and only dropping four. Only one team finished with fewer sets lost. The gold medal team finished winning 21 sets and falling in seven while the second place finishers won 21 sets and lost six. 

US Men's Volleyball Falls in Olympic Quarterfinals

After clinching the top seed in the tournament at the London Olympics, the defending champion U.S. men’s volleyball fell to Italy in straight sets in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Former Cougars Rich Lambourne and Russell Holmes are members of the U.S. team. Lambourne and Holmes started at their respective positions of libero and middle blocker throughout their team's tournament run. 

Team USA reached the quarterfinals after topping Tunisia 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 Monday.

Former Cougars help lift US men's volleyball

In a rematch of the Beijing Olympic final, the US men’s national volleyball team topped top-ranked Brazil 3-1 in London Thursday.

After dropping its first set in three matches, the U.S. rallied back to win the next three for a 23-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-17 victory.

US Men's Volleyball Improves to 2-0 in London Olympics

The U.S. men’s volleyball team continued its strong early run at the London Olympics with a quick three-set sweep over Germany Tuesday.

The Americans made quick of the Germans in an 89-minute 25-23, 25-26, 25-20 victory.

Team USA has not lost a set yet and plays No. 1 Brazil on Thursday. The two teams last met in the World Cup in November, where the Brazilians prevailed in four sets.

U.S. Men's Volleyball Sweeps Serbia in Opener

The U.S. Olympic Men’s Volleyball team opened its Olympic Games title defense with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-21 sweep over Serbia Sunday in London.

Former Cougars Russell Holmes and Rich Lambourne contributed in the match as the starting middle blocker and designated libero, respectively. Holmes charted three kills and three blocks for six points in his first Olympic match.

Team U.S.A. out-blocked Serbia 16-11 as both teams served five aces and totaled 19 digs. The Americans held Serbia to a .115 hitting efficiency (34-24-87).

Sander Leads U.S. to Pan Am Gold

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 14, 2012) – A young group of players from the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team defeated Argentina, 29-27, 25-20, 25-11 to win the gold medal at the Pan American Cup in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The U.S. Men, some of whom could be on the U.S. Olympic volleyball team in 2016, finished the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. Argentina finished second at 4-1. It is the fifth time the U.S. Men have won the tournament since it started in 2006.
