Why did you begin running?

In P.E. at middle school they had a thing where they gave out shirts. If girls ran a six- minute mile they got a shirt, if a boy ran a five-minute mile they got a shirt. I ran a six-minute mile. My coach said I should get a five-minute mile, so I raced some boys from the eighth grade. I was in seventh, and I got the five-minute mile and I set the school record. Once you’re good at things, you start pursuing them more. In eighth grade there was a school track meet.

Why/when did you begin running

I started running as a sophomore. I didn’t even know what cross country was as a freshman. My first experience with running was in track in ninth grade. I ran in the spring and I really liked it. Then, someone told me at the end of the year about cross country and a lot of my friends had done it as freshmen. I wish now I would have done it too but I didn’t know about it. I started training with Davis (High School) in the summer before my sophomore year and I just really liked it.

“At Notre Dame I felt really good about my race. I broke my personal record. I was up where I was supposed to be.”

“Notre dame was definitely a confidence-booster. You always want to improve obviously. You always want to get better, but my confidence is definitely higher.”
