BYU honors Australian family for Thursday's Heroes

This week BYU football welcomed the Howe family from Sydney, Australia, to practice to honor their son, Ethan, as a Thursday's Hero.

Ethan was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and went through rounds of chemo therapy and surgery to remove tumors from his kidneys. Ethan is now cancer free and was cleared by doctors to visit the U.S. The Howes went to Disneyland and will also attend Friday night's game against Utah State. The game will be Ethan's first American football game. He has traveled one of the farthest distances of all Thursday's Heroes honored.

Why did you come to BYU?

I’ve just always wanted to. I knew it was the right environment that I wanted to be a part of. It’s a good program, a good education. Just everything.

What is your favorite professional team?

I like the 49ers because my dad grew up in the Bay Area. I’m not a diehard anything fan, but I guess I like the 49ers because I’m from California.

When/why did you start playing football?

ESPN's Jesse Palmer  was on the Dan Patrick Show talking about Taysom Hill and BYU:
"He's a freak show. He's a much faster runner, I think, than Tim Tebow was. He's a more sudden athlete...He's dangerous...I think Taysom's the kind of guy though, that can take it to the house from a distance.
